AN APPRENTICE who slashed a builder's face with a box cutter in a random attack in Melbourne's CBD has been sentenced to youth detention.
Phillip Andrews, 20, of Williamstown, was yesterday ordered to be detained in a youth justice centre for 2½⁄ years. Andrews had pleaded guilty in the County Court last week to three charges that included recklessly causing serious injury to Ryan Clarke.
Mr Clarke, 27, left with scarring from an eye to his nose, facial numbness and a crooked smile, was attacked by Andrews last July.
Andrews apologised for the ''terrible'' conduct for which he felt disbelief and shame.
