THE gun used by Gold Coast brothers Jade and Dionne Lacey to kill a Nerang gardener was used in a separate shooting, a court was told today.
The pair are due to be sentenced today in the Brisbane District Court for torture, deprivation of liberty and extortion.
The Lacey brothers were convicted in March of abducting teenager Owen Colin Matthews at gunpoint and forcing the 19-year-old to dig his own grave on a deserted island.
They shot Matthews in the hand using a gun which they later used several weeks later to kill landscape gardener Kevin Palmer, 23.
Judge Tony Rafter had initially adjourned sentencing of the pair while they awaited the outcome of a special leave application in the High Court in June relating to their sentences for the unlawful killing of Nerang landscape gardener Kevin Palmer.
The two brothers remain in court sitting alongside each other both dressed in a suit and tie.
Dionne, 23, is already serving an 11-year jail term for the manslaughter of Palmer.
Jade, 27, was jailed for five years for unlawfully wounding Palmer.
Michael Byrne SC has argued that their sentences should be tacked on to their jail terms already being served.
"What occurred to Owen Matthews was horrific,'' he said.
"He had a game of Russian Roulette played on him.
"These two (Jade and Dionne) have shown no remorse.''
Dione's defence lawyer Ian Temby, OC, said his client did something "foolish and seriously wrong'' but there was still hope for him.
"There is good in this young man although in respect of these offences he has gone off the rails,'' he told the court.
Mr Temby has argued it would be a "crushing burden" on his client to give him a long sentence.
The sentencing is continuing.
