A primary school was locked down this morning as a worker on a school building site was slashed by a man carrying a knife and syringe.

Police confirmed a man was slashed at Sanctuary Point Primary School on the NSW south coast.

The alleged offender has not been apprehended.

While details of the attack are scarce, it is believed students spotted the man shortly before the incident.

It is understood the school was then locked down and the altercation occurred shortly after.

No students were injured.

The injured worker did not require treatment by paramedics.

A NSW Education spokeswoman refused to comment on the attack or confirm whether the school has since been reopened.

It follows an incident this morning in which a 14-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly threatening his classmates at Woolgoolga High School on the NSW north coast.

It is believed the boy threatened to shoot his classmates, causing the school to go into lockdown today.

"Students were confined to their classrooms as police confirmed there was no threat to public safety and parents were notified," police said in a statement.

No one was injured.

The teenager has been taken to Coffs Harbour police station.
